The Mavins, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale & Sarkodie slay thousands at AICC

Nigeria's 7-member crew Mavins and Ghana's triple S -- Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and Sarkodie thrilled thousands at the Accra International Conference Centre last night.

After months of massive anticipation, Tigo Ghana Meets Naija mega concert came off last night, May 23 at the Accra International Conference Centre with so many surprises. Unlike last year, the 5th edition of Ghana’s biggest musical concert saw thousands of music fans that thronged the auditorium standing for more than seven (7) hours due to overcapacity (I advise next year’s event should move to the Ohene Djan sports stadium or any stadium available).

Viasat 1’s Born Starz winner, Nero X raised the curtains with some impressive performance followed by Gallaxy, Dobble, Keche, Ruff N Smoth, and MzVee as supporting artistes.

Ghanaian stand-up comedian DKB gave the fans something to laugh about when he cracked jokes about Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and Sarkodie’s attitude towards solving issues if they are in government. He was joined by controversial radio and TV host, Afia Schwarzenegger, who appeared on stage in a skimpy dress. And to everyone’s surprise, Afia revealed President John Dramani Mahama’s missing speech pages at the recent ECOWAS summit.

Shatta Wale, the first headline performer, brought to the stage his ‘Shatta Movement Family’ guards who were waving his army flags to begin his performance. He performed some of his old and new hit songs such as “Shatta City”, “Everybody Likes My Thing”, “Talk Talk”, “Dancehall Commando remix” (Sarkodie joined him to perform), and more. The “Dacehall King” hit man, who put up one of the best act on the night, left the patrons screaming for more after treating them to a thrilling 30-minutes performance but what would probably leave a lasting memories as far as his performance is concerned is when he stripped naked during his last performance.

The night also saw an eclectic performance from one time BET Award winner, Sarkodie. This time, everyone in the auditorium had to stand on their seats instead to take a view at Ghana’s fastest rapper. Sarkodie performed hits after hits. From his debut major breakthrough single “Baby” which features Mugeez to his #DumsorMustStop campaign official song titled “Dumsor”. Shatta Wale also joined him to perform his hit single “M3gye Wo Girl” and when everyone thought he had finished his performance, he invited on stage ‘Dancehall General’ Jupitar to perform their hit collaboration titled “Enemies”.

Concluding Ghana’s performance on the night was Bhim Nation’s boss, Stonebwoy, who took the baton from Sarkodie with A cappella throughout his 30-minutes performance. Though, his performance didn’t meet the fans’ satisfaction due to high expectation from him as Ghana’s reigning artiste of the year, his act worth watching. He performed his hits singles “Bhim Nation”, “Rudebwoi Luv”, “Baafira” (Sarkodie joined him to perform), “Come Over” which features MzVee,”Wicked” which features Gappy Ranks and more.

Another big surprise on the night was a performance from one of Nigeria’s Pop queen, Seyi Shay, before DJ Nii Aryee Tagoe, the host of the show invited The Mavins crew to begin their performance.

With the absence of Tiwa Savage, each member of The Mavins Dynasty performed three songs. Rekaado Banks began his performance with his hits “Chop Am” and “Katapot” followed by Korede Bello who got the ladies screaming, Di’Ja, D’Prince, and Dr. Sid. The auditorium got hotter when Don Jazzy joined Dr. Sid on stage in all-white Nigerian native costume. He treated fans to good music with his collaboration with Dr. Sid, P-Square, KCee and Wizkid before ending the 7-hour show with The Mavins records; “Looku Looku”, “Adaobi” and of course “Dorobucci”.

On the deck were DJ Vyrusky from Ghana and DJ Kesh King from Nigeria.
