American Born Ghanaian On Billboard's Emerging Artistes Chart

Vic Mensa has hit Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists chart this week with his new video dubbed “Down On My Luck.”

21-year old Ghanaian born American Hip-hop recording artiste, Vic Mensa has hit Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists chart this week with his new video dubbed “Down On My Luck.”

The Hip-hop star earned a high-profile boost on February 2012 when Kanye West revealed "Wolves," -- the collaboration featuring West, Mensa and singer Sia. Three days later, the trio united to perform the track on Saturday Night Live's 40th anniversary special.

As "Wolves" takes off, Mensa's biggest solo single to date, "Down of My Luck" gains a second wind. The EDM-heavy single bounces with a deep house beat that bursts with series of thumping drums while sneaking in occasional drum suppression for added variety. Mensa proves his singing is ripe with dexterity, cutting the spacing between words so they knock into each other like a collapsing house of cards.

The Chicago native isn't overwhelmed by the task, however, and sweeps through his verses with a cool swagger reminiscent of Drake. The new attention boosts "Luck" to 159,600 streams for the week ending February 2015, according to Next Big Sound. Resulting Twitter activity drives the track to re-enter at No. 41 on Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists charts.
