Francophonie Festival to hold from 12th - 19th March

Alliance Francaise Accra in collaboration with the French Embassy, the Francophone Embassies in Ghana and Francophone Students Associations, and under the patronage of The International Organization of Francophonie (OIF), presents the annual Francophonie Festival from Saturday, 12th March to Saturday, 19th March, 2016.

As an internationally recognized festival that celebrates the Francophone cultures and French language, its main objective is to put at the forefront, the diversity of francophone cultures through various events and activities.

Each year, the francophone community in Ghana brings diverse activities and events that portray the richness of the Francophone culture. This year the Festival will be celebrated with insightful events and activities such as concerts, French contest, film screenings, a fair, a comedy show and a job forum.

The festival will kick start on Saturday 12 March with a football match in the morning and an opening concert by the wonderful Fatoumata Diawara of Malian parentage but born in Ivory Coast. The world-renowned singer has been touring the world with her album Fatou and received international recognition with the song of the award winning movie ‘Timbuktu’. She will be performing in Accra for the first time and for the pleasure of all at Alliance Française Accra at 8pm, right after the official opening by Francophone Ambassadors.

The festival continues film screenings from Monday 14 to Thursday 17 March at the Maison Française, Reginald Amonoo Building, University of Ghana at 10 am and 7pm each day.

On Friday 18 March, Alliance Française Accra will host the Final French Contest and Job Forum from 9am-5.30pm. The day’s activity include: Grand Finale of the French Contest, award ceremony of the Final French Contest and Competition for High School students, shows presented by the French Club of Mount Mary College of Education, Job and entrepreneurship Fair and finally a Roundtable Discussion: ‘Bring your CV and take part in professional networking for bilingual students and jobseekers!

The roundup of the festival will be on Saturday 19 March at Alliance Française Accra with a Kermesse (Food and Cultural Fair) from morning till evening (11am – 7pm) and followed by a night of Humor with a One Woman Show: OUAGADOUGOU PRESSÉ (In French) by wacky, brittle, seductive, confusing Burkinabe, Roukiata Ouedraogo alias Petit Modèle who plays fifteen characters as truculent as each other at 7:30pm at Alliance Française Accra Amphitheatre.
