Is this why Nana Akua Addo wore a GHC 37,086 foreign dress to the 2017 BET Awards?

Nana Akua Addo wore a dress made by Filipino designer, Leo Almodal to the 2017 BET Awards and says Ghanaian designers are 'copy copy'. Is that why she wore a foreign dress?

Fashion icon and actress, Nana Akua Addo says Ghanaian designers should be creative and move from copying designs from other people.

Speaking to Graphic Showbiz, Nana Akua said “There are some very good Ghanaian fashion designers and I love wearing them but most of the rest don’t have an identity. They could move away from the “copy copy” designs and carve a niche for themselves by being creative in order to stand out”.

The Wanna movie star has gained global recognition through her ‘expensive’ fashion sense and her latest haute couture to the 2017 BET Awards was glamourous.

She wore a sparkling silver fringe gown with an accompanying ear set by Filipino designer, Leo Almodal costing her $8,510 and $320 for shipping.

If we are calculating right with all the correct economic indicators in place then the piece cost her close to GHC 37,086 which is probably one of the most expensive dresses a Ghanaian celebrity has worn.

“I don’t joke with my appearances so I spend a lot on the designs I wear on red carpets. That is what has earned me global attention and I’m already using it to build my brand”, She added.

2005 Miss Malaika pageant disclosed that “I wanted to be the first person to wear this gown but there was no cash to pay for it so my designer had to sell it to Miss Philippines when she saw it in the showroom. That explains why she was the first person seen wearing it but it was originally made for me,” she said.

“I really had to be alert because it was a gown made of real stone pearls. You can imagine its weight but hey, I pulled it off in a grand style and I love every bit of that experience”.
