Below are 5 fashion trends that existed before Ghana gained Independence but are still skyrocketing on the market.

Suit

Before March 1957, Ghana, the people of the Gold Coast under British rule had a unique way of dressing which the youth of this 21st century considers archaic.

As part of Ghana's goals to progress after gaining independence, the fashion industry has evolved tremendously as a subsidiary of the economy.

Fashion designers have constantly been redesigning the old fashion trends into something new and very fashionable for present-day youth.

One would be amazed at the intensity of hard work that goes into it, with intricate detailing, and embellishment to suit the needs of this generation.

1. Wedges

Wedges, which were worn in the Gold Coast era are still being appreciated by young people in present Ghana, as evidently seen at parties, churches, and other entertainment events.

2. Ghanaian smock

Before Independence the smock was worn by the Northern Regional Chiefs and other traditional leaders for important functions. Due to the modernization and the passion for made in Ghana products, the smock has in one way or the other become household attire for work, outings and social gathering.

3. Jeans

From mum to baggy to straight, ripped and skinny, jeans has gone through quite a rapid change leading to the reduction in size and length. Very casual attire that matches with every top, men and women slip into them for every occasion.

4. Jacket

We live in a time where most people prefer shortcuts and that’s ok. Jackets are very handy for all occasions and most people in the Entertainment Industry are noted for wearing them.

5. Suits

Men's fashion rose from double-breasted suits to modern formal wear, with some unfortunately having large shoulder pads in between. Conformity ruled in the 1990s , with trim tailoring and similar accessories (hat, pocket square, cigarette, and martini) for just about everyone.
