Chimpanzees can cook, scientists have discovered

Researchers have found apes have the cognitive ability to heat up food and enjoy it more, although they don't like working together to prepare the meal.Felix Warneken who led the research told The Times paper: "Human cooking is generally social in nature: humans pool resources and engage in cooking in the company of others. However, the social nature of cooking creates significant opportunities for theft. "Chimpanzees may be unwilling to engage in these behaviours when multiple chimpanzees have access to food and cooking devices, monopolising rather than sharing these resources."The scientists demonstrated to the chimps how to cook food by placing it in an oven and heating it up, with over half of the time the chimps copying the technique.
