Bride abandons fiancé on wedding day because he's not a graduate

The runaway bride told the clergy that she couldnt marry her fiancé because he was a school drop-out.

An undergraduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Ifunanya Igwebuike, shocked her family and that of her fiancé, Ekene Uzoigwe when she failed to turn up for her wedding on Saturday, January 3.

With guests and family members all settled at St Patrick Catholic Church, Umuchu in Aguata Local government, Anambra State, the venue of the planned nuptial, Ekene Uziogwe failed to turn up, later informing the pastor through a test message that she was no longer interested in the wedding.

According to report, Ekene Uzioigwe told the Parish Priest, Reverend Father Lawrence Maduagwu, that she was no longer interested and asked him to cancel the wedding because she couldn't marry a school dropout.

Guests and both family members were stunned when Reverend Father Lawrence Maduagwu announced the bride’s decision.

Speaking to PM News, Ekene Uzoigwe expressed shock at the turn of event after “Ifunanya has said yes to his proposal under the condition that he would send her to school, which he agreed." Ekene Uzoigwe revealed that he financed Ifunanya’s education and that they had planned to get married during her final year in the tertiary institution.

The shocked groom also revealed that he had given the parents of the girl the sum of N160,000 to prepare for the wedding, besides other arrangements and expenses incurred at the wedding and reception.

Ekene Uzoigwe, who is a business man based in Abakiliki reportedly met Ifunanya at their home town, Umuchu.

“If she had informed me, I would not have made arrangements. We had already cooked food and bought drinks for the wedding,” Ekene Uzoigwe told PM News before adding that the girl’s parents have asked him to come collect the money he gave them to prepare for the wedding.
