The accused, who pleaded not guilty, said that he traveled out of Abuja for some time and did not count what was left of the said blocks when he returned.

The police on Thursday arraigned a 29-year-old man, Sadiq Giwa, at the Gudu Upper Area Court for theft of 631 pieces of blocks valued N91, 500.

The accused, who resides at Angwan Tiv, Apo, Abuja, was arraigned on a one-count charge of theft.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Shedrack Dauda, told the court that one Chineye Oluchi of No. 56, Zone D, Apo resettlement, Abuja, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on June 25.

Dauda said the complainant employed the accused as a manager and security in her Block Industry at Angwan Tiv, Apo, Abuja, on a monthly salary.

He said when the complainant went to the block industry to check on the business, she discovered that the accused had ``criminally stolen’’ 631 pieces of nine inches blocks.

He said that the said blocks were valued at N91,500 and the accused allegedly sold them without the complainant's consent.

Dauda said the offences contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, however, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N300,000 with one reliable surety that must reside within the court's jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case till Aug. 5, for hearing.
