Murder probe is underway and police are hunting for the 46-year-old mother of the babies - known only as Andrea G - who has gone missing.

The corpses of the infants were discovered by emergency medics in a single box in one room.

The mother hasn't been since since the end of September after a 'heavy row' with her partner, according to local newspaper Bild.

The house where they lived is often termed the house of horror because so many bad things have happened there.

Bild also reported that the woman has lived in the house for 18 years and she has had more than four abortions.

Officials did not give any details of the circumstances of their deaths or how many bodies were found.

A brief police statement on the Wallenfels find said: 'Around 4.00pm on Thursday the police were called to a house in Wallenfels where mortal remains were found. The initial investigation showed that it is the human remains of infants.'

Autopsies were due to be carried out on the remains on Friday.

Last May in Germany a woman was sentenced to nearly four years jail for killing two of her children and hiding their bodies in a deep freeze.
