Rick Jackson was in prison for 39 years. He was locked up when he was 18, and 58 when he was let go in 2014.

He filed the lawsuit on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 because of his arrest and imprisonment over a slaying that happened in 1975. The suit involves the city and eight police officers (and their estates for those no longer alive).

Three detectives and a sergeant who were involved in the case have died.

Jackson and two co-defendants were freed by the state when a key witness in the murder recanted his statement. He revealed he was pressurized by detectives to finger Jackson and the other two. The murder occurred when he was 12.

Upon his release last year Ricky Jackson got $1 million for compensation as a result of the wrongful imprisonment.
