A police officer stationed at Botswana Police College is under police investigations after he allegedly tried to rape a teenage girl in the bush.

The 19-year old girl from Old Naledi told the police that she had been hitch-hiking at a Notwane farms bus stop when Constable Motsumi who was driving a police car pulled over.

Motsumi is said to have demanded the young lady to produce her identity card and when she told him that she did not have it, and told him her Ndebele name, he arrested her on grounds that she may be an illegal immigrant.

He is said to have driven along the Mankgodi road and stopped in the bush where he started touching the woman’s private parts and tried to undress her.

The girl is said to have struggled and eventually managed to escape from the vehicle and managed to get to the police station where she reported the matter.

Superintendent Mothusi Phadi of Ramotswa police has confirmed the incident but said the police officer who is also being quizzed for unlawful use of a motor vehicle was still at work. “We are still conducting investigations and once they are complete that is when we will decide whether to interdict him whilst he awaits trial,” he said.
