Elena Komleva, from Ottawa in Canada, was mistaken for her namesake, a 29-year-old who apparently placed an ad on a Russian website looking for a man to give her a baby.

The Russian Elena Komleva reportedly placed the ad to get her mother off her back about grandchildren.

Men were invited to apply for the role of sperm donor and her mother would choose the winner.

She posted on a Russian social media site: "On the eve of my 29th birthday I announce a contest named 'Leave your trace inside me'.

"My mother needs grandchildren to give them all the baby clothes she has been collecting.

"But nobody wants to marry me yet.

"So, if you are young, strong and healthy drop me a line.

"My mother will be in charge of selecting the candidates and announcing the winner".

The story, reported in MailOnline, was picked up by various news outlets that mistakenly used pictures of the Canadian Elena Komleva, taken from her blog and facebook profile.

The 23-year-old communications student said a man wrote her a message saying he would be happy to get her pregnant.

"I thought he was crazy," Komleva said in an interview with CTVNews.ca

She was then inundated with offers as the story went viral.

Komleva took the surreal situation in good humour, even posting a YouTube video to thank people who have made positive comments.

She is, however, keen to highlight the fact she doesn't want a baby from a stranger.

"To be honest, it’s kind of strange," Komleva said. "I don’t want people to think I’m desperate and want a guy to get her pregnant."
