What if your spouse told you they were transgender?

Imagine realising one day that the love of your life was once the same sex as you.

People who identify as transgender or transsexual are usually people who are born with typical male or female anatomies but feel as though they’ve been born into the “wrong body.” For example, a person who identifies as transgender or transsexual may have typical female anatomy but feel like a male and seek to become male by taking hormones or electing to have sex reassignment surgeries.

When one Emily Prince was considering coming out as transgender, the first person she told was her girlfriend. It did not go well.

"She basically shoved me back in the closet," said Prince, who is now 31 and living in Alexandria, Virginia. "It left some lasting emotional damage that still manifests itself to this day — and that relationship ended back in 2008."

But sometimes, it doesn't always backfire.

Take the now popular Caitlyn Jenner who was a man just a few months ago and his making so much buzz for becoming a she. It seemed to go down well with the family, even with the kids.

This begs the question:
