The deceased included Halidu Bindul, 42, a herdsman and Mohammed Halidu, one-and-a-half-year-old baby boy, father and son respectively.

The man and his family were attacked by unknown gunmen who stormed their home. The unknown assailants wounded a neighbour and her son as well as Bindul’s wife.

Chief Supt Laar Baman, Ejisu Divisional Police Commander, who confirmed the tragic incident, said an investigation had been launched to arrest the perpetrators of the crime.

He mentioned one Salamatu Bashiru, a neighbour of the herdsman and her 12-year-old son as among the three who suffered gunshot wounds in the shooting incident and were receiving treatment at the hospital.

According to the police chief, Salamatu Bashiru and her son had gone to the rescue of the members of the family when they (Salamatu and the son) heard them screaming for help following the gunshots.

Chief Supt Laar Baman narrated that the incident happened at the time Halidu Bindul and his family were fast asleep, pointing out that the shooting appeared to be “an assassination as the man was the intended target in the shooting incident.”

He said police preliminary investigation pointed to this direction as “the gunmen attempted to burn Halidu’s body after killing him.”

The commander asserted that the suspects bolted on a motorbike and appealed to the public to assist the police with useful information that could lead to their arrest.
