A university has discovered that everyday household noises could cause cats to have seizures. Crinkling tinfoil and banging spoons in front of cats could cause them to have a seizure.

Other typical household sounds like chinking or tapping glass, crinkling paper or plastic bags, computer keyboard or mouse sounds and jingling coins or keys could trigger the kitty seizures.

A charity released a warning when they received a surprising number of complaints from cat owners who noticed random seizures in their pets. This prompted a joint study of 92 cats carried out by University College London School of Pharmacy and Davies Veterinary Specialists in England.

The phenomenon has been dubbed 'Tom and Jerry Syndrome' after cartoon cat Tom who is often startled by sudden sounds.
