Police did not name the suspect, 35, but said he was arrested on March 23 for 87 counts of robbery across South Korea. The cash and goods he stole were worth more than $479,000, an unidentified police officer in the city of Incheon told Reuters.

The suspect had served time in prison for theft in 2005, police said. He later had plastic surgery to change the structure of his jaw, and to stretch his limbs so he would appear taller. He told police he had the surgery to improve his appearance.

After confessing to the recent string of robberies, the suspect admitted to police that he created his own tools to disable digital home locks.
