Tourist falls from cliff while trying to take selfie

A Singaporean tourist fell off a cliff on Lembongan Island in Bali while trying to take a selfie, according to local police.

Mohamed Aslam Shahul, 21, was taking trying to take a selfie as a wave crashed against the cliff, causing him to lose his balance and fall into the sea from a height of about six feet. His body was recovered and taken to the local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Aslam was on holiday in Indonesia.

In a statement by the police chief of Nusa Penida, Gede Arianta, he said, "He could not control his balance when he was hit by a wave. He slipped and fell into the ocean. He apparently couldn’t swim.”

The Singapore embassy in Jakarta extended condolences to Aslam's family and provided consular assistance in returning his body to Singapore, according to The Guardian.
