Student kneels in front of hostel to seek girlfriend's forgiveness

A very sober student was spotted kneeling in front of a female hostel, begging to be spanked.

The student was photographed on Wednesday outside of Chongqing Industry Polytechnic College's hostel in Southwest China, the People's Mail Online reports.

The gesture was made as a means of seeking forgiveness from his girlfriend and he waited on his knees with a bundle of canes strapped to his bare back.

There is some history behind this gesture of soberness.

It was inspired by an old Chinese story.

In 283 BC, according to the Historical Biographies ofLian Po and Lin Xiangru, Lian was a distinguished general, while Lin was a lowly servant.

Lian had gone to Lin with canes strapped on his back to beg her forgiveness for his arrogance to her.

The willingness to accept punishment was intended to show Lin Xiangru how truly sorry Lian Po was.

Pictures of the apologetic male has since been shared by fellow students on the internet since Thursday where he has largely been ridiculed for his submission.

Many Chinese web users are asking, 'would you want such a man?'

It remains unknown whether she accepted his apology.
