5 family members die after overdosing on drugs to escape 'apocalypse’

A couple and three of their children were found dead at their home after taking a mixture of drugs in to escape “the evil of the world”

Benjamin and Kristi Strack and three of their children, 14-year-old Benson, 12-year-old Emery, and 11-year-old Zion were found dead in Springville, Utah on Saturday, September 27 2014.

Police revealed that the family often discussed religiously-held notions of the apocalypse &orchestrated a multi-drug suicide using methadone and other medication.

"It was a fairly common theme for the parents to talk about, the apocalypse, the end of days, final judgment. Their surviving son, when he was interviewed, indicated that his mother had made comments that if things got bad enough she would much rather take herself and her family out in a comfortable way, rather than a painful way," Springville Police Department detective Greg Turnbow, the lead officer on the case, said.

Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday January 27, Greg Turnbow said the parents’ deaths were ruled suicides while the children’s deaths were ruled homicide.

It was also revealed that the 14-year-old child had a note in which he said he was aware if the “possible impending doom.”

The father had heroin in his body and the others had methadone and over-the-counter medication and there was no sign of a struggle.

According to Springville police Chief, J. Scoot Finlayson, relatives told investigators that the family had spoken about "leaving this world to escape impending doom."
