Isaac, a resident of Ajegunle in Apapa, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and impersonation.

Imprisonment.

The prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, told the court that the accused who entered a ‘not guilty plea’ committed the offences between September and October 2016 at Olodi Apapa, Lagos.

Elibeh alleged that Isaac who falsely paraded herself as a naval officer, obtained N300,000 from the complainants on the pretext that she would secure  Nigeria Navy Academy forms for them.

The prosecutor said that the complainants: Sunday Nwuzor, Oshimiri Chikaodiri and Nnaemeka Enene gave their money to the accused, unknown to them that she was a fraudster.

Elibeh said that when the complainants did not get any feedback from Isaac; they confronted her and asked for their money, but to their surprise the accused started making up excuses.

He said that when the accused refused to refund the money to the complainants, they reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 378 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312 prescribes a 15-year jail term for obtaining money under false pretences.
