No rehabilitation work done in St. Thomas Aquinas labs

Money from the 2015 Petroleum Revenues purportedly spent on the rehabilitation of infrastructure in the educational sector, especially the construction of classroom blocks, dormitories and the bungalows has come up short.

Government's claims of expenditure in the education sector do not add up according an investigations by Pulse Business.

According to government it spent about GHC95,000 of the Petroleum Revenue on the rehabilitation of the St. Thomas Aquinas SHS' science laboratory.

But our investigations show otherwise. Below is a detailed report on Pulse Business' visit to the school.

Government claims it has spent GHC95,000 on the rehabilitation of St. Thomas Aquinas SHS' science laboratory.

Pulse Business visited the St. Thomas Acquinas Senior High School and found out that not only has no work been done, but the school authorities have no inclination that any rehabilitation work for the science resource sector had been planned.

Meanwhile our research also shows that it cost the same government about GHC58, 648 to construct a a two- story dormitory block at Zebilla Senior High School; half the amount government claims it used to rehabilitate a science lab.

Some science teachers in the school who operate the laboratories said no work had been done in the resource centre for years.

Also a form three science student revealed that the resource centre has stayed the same ever since he was admitted into the school.

Government allegedly spent GHC44,086 on rehabilitating the St. Francis Girls Senior High School in Jirapa.

Another point that further fuels suspicion is the fact that government spent half the amount it claims to have spent rehabilitating the resource centre to construct a whole block at the GHC52,765.

Apart from the fact that some of the jobs government claims to have already paid for have not seen any sign of work, there appears to be so many inconsistencies in the expenditure. From the chart of figures above, government spent more on the same job in one instance than the other.

For instance, government spent GHC14,000 on the construction of a 6- unit classroom block at the Jema Islamic Primary School, but spent 290,119 on the construction of the same 6 unit block Nsreso R/C School in Dorma Municipality, and GHC104,682 for the same job at the Kopedeke( Kusawgu) D/A Primary School.
