Community Health Nurses call off strike

The nurses were protesting the change of their name from Community Health Nurses to Nursing Assistants.

President of Community Health Nurses Association Esther Bamfo said they have reached an agreement with the Ghana Health Service.

The agreement, she explained, will maintain their name as “Community Health Nurse.”

‘Our issues were two;one with our employer and the other one with MMC but for now we are done with that of our employer, that is why we are calling off the strike,’ she said on Citi FM.

‘Our employers say for them, they will maintain our name Community Health Nurse and they will also support any drive aimed at amending the MMC laws to recognize community health nurses and then also give us a community health certificate,’ she added.

She told Adom FM in a separate interview that the agreement between them and the Ghana Health Service have been documented.

“I signed on behalf of the nurses and the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyira, signed on behalf of Ghana Health Service,” he said.

Bamfo also called on nurses to resume work, urging them to put in their maximum efforts at work.

‘The strike is off so nobody should stay in the house, everybody should return to work and I am also urging them to put in maximum efforts to work and work well. They must change their attitude and work for Ghana,’ he said.
