The Ministry of Health has indicated that it has not received any lawsuit from the former director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Dr Thomas Anaba.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Health, Robert Cudjoe said the Ministry can only act after it has received the suit.

“I went to the hospital yesterday and there was no letter. I went to the administration and I was told there was no letter but we have heard from the media that he has sued us. I checked; the legal section, administration and we have not received any letter. Monday, when we go to the office and we receive a letter, we will read the content and accordingly respond.”

Dr Anaba sued the state for what he says is the wrongful termination of his contract.

The suit is seeking the Court to declare that the decision of the Minister of Health was unlawful, and therefore null and void.

It is also asking that Dr Anaba be reinstated as the Medical Director of the facility.

He is also asking that the court prevents the Health Minister and any other person from taking any unreasonable or unfair decision against the applicant.

Dr Anaba was appointed on February 1, 2016, by former President John Mahama. His appointment was expected to last till 2020 with an option to re-apply.

It is unclear why the Public Service Commission and the government terminated his appointment.

However, the  Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu said Dr Anaba is no longer useful at the facility and is unfit to manage the hospital since he has no managerial skills.
