Daisy chain pattern is usually the first basic design every beginner works through. Here is how to bead a daisy chain pattern on your slippers. Have two different coloured beads with varying sizes. Preferably one large and one small. This would help you identify which goes where. So let’s name your beads A (large) and B (small).
- Step 1
Pick one B bead (small) with the small slender needle. Let’s call this bead number 1. Pull the bead down on the thread. Be sure to leave about eight inches of thread behind. This would be the tail. Pass the needle upwards through the bottom of the bead (where the tail is located).
- Step 2
Pick up 4 B (small) bead, label them as 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively. Add 1 A (large) bead and number it as 6. Pass the needle back through the first bead towards the tail.
- Step 3
Pass 3 more light beads through the needle (7, 8 and 9). Pass the needle though bead 5 and out. Your work should be looking like a flower with the large bead in the centre. And the small beads as petals.
- Step 4
Pick one B bead (number 10). Pass the needle back through bead 9 towards bead 8.
- Step 5
Pick one smaller bead (the 11 bead) and pass the needle through bead 10 and out.
- Step 6
Pick 3 more small beads with the needle (12, 13 and 14 respectively). Also add a large one making it the 15. Now pass the needle back through bead 11 and out.
- Step 7
Pick 3 more small beads with the needle (16, 17 and 18 respectively). Pass the needle back through bead number 14 and out. At the stage you have two joined flowers.
Keep repeating step 4 through to step 7 to add more flowers to the thread. Make sure that each flower centre (large bead) has 9 surrounding petals (small beads).
You can decide to directly work your pattern on the slippers. Or better still sew on the pattern after weaving. Rock your beautiful slippers with your lovely Ankara dress for that casual outing.
