The White House went into lock down Friday afternoon after the U.S. Park Police reported a shooting near the presidential residence, ABC news reports.

President Obama was on a golf outing at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland when the shooting occurred.

One person was shot by law enforcement agencies near the White House.

It is unclear the current condition of the person.

The U.S. Park Police, which has jurisdiction of the neighborhood surrounding the White House, said there was a shooting shortly after 3 p.m.on West Executive Drive, USA Today reports.

Reporters in the White House briefing room were asked to shelter in place in the White House basement.

Snipers took to the White House roof with guns drawn as people were cleared off the streets.

A Capitol Police spokesman says the agency is monitoring the situation at the White House, but that all buildings remain open at the Capitol.

The Vice President was said to be "within the complex" at the White House, but it is "secure", a spokesperson told ABC news.
