These two themes – Prayer and faith in God, permeated through the stage play from the beginning till the end, bringing to light the fact that religion still plays a very important role in our lives despite what we think or believe in.

‘Dear God Comma’, tells the story of Prof Fiifi Aggrey and Dr. Mrs. Effie Aggrey who are almost at the peak of their careers. However, some unexpected events that came their way nearly marred the achievements they have made over the years. Their faith gets tested in the play, and their only way out was to turn to God in prayer for strength and protection.

Nothing can take away the high standard of work Rovermann productions put into organising each play. And it’s no different this time with their latest stage play, “Dear God Comma”.

The beautiful set was created completely out of wood but had a distinct airiness around that you wouldn't expect from such items.

The props, including a sofa, a dining table, coffee chairs and tables, a kitchen cabinet hanging out of a wood, were all put to use throughout the play.

And of course, you can’t take away the fact that Roverman plays do not start late. The play was to start at 6.30pm. At exactly a half past six, live band music welcoming patrons stopped playing, the curtain opened and the show began in earnest.

Each actor in the play, from the smallest to the largest, was awesome in their roles and execution. They all had their moments and knew exactly what they were supposed to be doing. Adding a bit of humour and wit, the cast was just splendid.

The choreography was diverse enough to hold the audience’s attention, as each performed theirs very well.  And of course, the vocal performance of each actor cannot be underestimated.  It’s amazing how the cast was able to combine singing with acting in the most impressive way.

The lighting design was also on point, as it suited the mood and atmosphere of each scene in the play. Beams of spotlights played their own distinct parts in the show. Sound effects also accompanied much of the action and supplied realism to the play.

What is more, the costumes were unique to each group of characters; the professors, witches, and angels; everything complemented each other.

A beautifully crafted masterpiece, ‘Dear God Comma’ left patrons entertained apart from being religiously inspired by its message. As the play takes centre stage, the audience were spell bound by the acting prowess of each of the cast.

Although I had challenges with ascertaining the actual story line and plot at the beginning of the play, I guess that is the beauty of Roverman productions; to keep you glued to your seats in suspense.

I entreat you to go watch this production. Even though theatres are putting on different shows for their audience, you will definitely not find one like ‘Dear God Comma’ by Uncle Ebo Whyte.
