The Golden Tulip Accra Hotel was the place to be last Sunday 2 July, as Melon Concepts in collaboration with Golden Tulip Accra pulled yet another successful Selewa pop-up Market to mark the Republic Holiday.

The market opened at 12 noon with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Mrs. Olivia Opoku, Director of Research Statistics and Information at the Ministry of Tourism, Art, and Culture.

The event was well attended by the hotel guest and the general public as everyone looked to grab a good bargain from the large collection of traditional and contemporary goods on sale. The items on display include clothing, fabrics, beads, cosmetics, bags, footwear, natural skin and hair products. Some vendors who marked the occasion include Vlisco, Omama by Nayak, Ojeanne Clothing, Pinup Queens, Enam African Collections and deCraft among others. Corporate Ghana wasn’t left out of the action - The event was well represented by companies such as Ecobank Ghana, Appolonia and Prudential Life Insurance.

Various shoppers interviewed couldn't hide their excitement. "It's not every day that you find an assembly of all your favorite brands across several product categories under one umbrella selling at highly discounted prices," said one happy shopper.

The climax of the market was a spectacular fashion show produced by the Finest Productions with His Royal Blackness, Kwasi Kyei Darkwa as master of ceremony. It featured gorgeous Ghanaian model showcasing the latest fashion and art collection of Omama by Nayak Afrik. According to Akua Anim, Head of Marketing and Events at Melon Concepts, 'we introduced the fashion show segment to our pop-up markets to bring life to the various fashion and art goods on display'.

This was the 6th edition of the Selewa Pop-up market. The event organizers are already preparing for their follow-up event dubbed the Mercedes Benz African Fashion Festival on 29th and 30th July which will be a collaboration with Global Ovation.

The Selewa Pop up Market is gradually becoming a household name for a family hangout and discount shopping destination. Organizers have hinted on other elements they will be infusing into the market to continue to offer variety to shoppers and continue to attract people within the mid and high affluent bracket.
