China to build northern Ghana’s first interchange

The Northern Regional capital, Tamale, is set to become the first town in the northern Ghana to get an interchange.

This follows the decision by the government of China to build one for the country. The decision was announced by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia after he arrived in the country following an official visit to China.

According to Dr Bawumia, “we’ve also agreed to construct an interchange at Point 7 in Tamale which is going to be the first interchange in the three northern regions. This is by way of grant funding,” Graphic Online reports.

“He however failed to give details of the cost of the interchange and when construction is expected to start except for the fact that the construction was part of the $15 billion grant funding by the Chinese government,” the report adds.

This is not the first time an infrastructural edifice of this scale is being constructed with foreign help. The redesigned Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, which cost 74 million euros, was built with help from the Brazilian government.
