Truthfulness requires a willingness to open up to your partner; it leaves no room for hiding stuff from the person you’re with or sneaking behind their back.
Oftentimes loyalty is whittled down to faithfulness to one’s partner. Faithfulness is a good virtue, of course; anytime we remain faithful to the people we promised to love, we show them that we respect them, and their love for us.
Loyalty is a composite quality, and faithfulness is just one aspect of it. Are you loyal to your partner? What does it even mean to be loyal? You can update your loyalty score by scoring yourself against the following traits.
allegiance is the act of binding your emotions and intellectual energies to a cause, or to a person; it is an indicator of loyalty. Allegiance means that you pitch your camp with your partner before you do so with any other person.
Allegiance, to a greater extent, determines whose side you’ll be on in the case of a quarrel between your partner and other people.
People who are truthful essentially believe that honesty is the best policy. Truthfulness requires a willingness to open up to your partner; it leaves no room for hiding stuff from the person you’re with or sneaking behind their back.
Apart from being a sign of loyalty, truthfulness actually bolsters loyalty in relationships.
Can your partner depend on you, come what may? Can they rely on you to pick up the laundry; can they rely on you to pick them up for dinner as you promised you would? If they can, then you’re a reliable partner, and a loyal one.
A duty is work that you are obliged to perform for legal or moral reasons. Apart from specific legal duties, no one gets prosecuted for shirking their duties to those they love. Nevertheless, dutiful partners show their loyalty to their loved ones by fulfilling their duties.
