Whose side should you take in an argument - Partner or Parent?

What do you do if you get caught in the middle of such a fight? These are some of the answers we got from our readers.

The arguments can get so heated you may end up saying hurtful things you didn’t even mean in the first place.

These are some of the answers we got from our readers:

Kwame: I’m taking my girl’s side, no doubt. Couples must always form a united front, and I believe loyalty should be unwavering. I know she could be wrong, but for the mean time I’m going to be stand by her and later talk to her about where she could be wrong and get her to apologize to my mum. I will speak to my mother too; it’s important that I do.

Louiza: haha! This is a no brainer; I’m quietly walking away from that hell-storm. They only way I’m staying is if either of them spots me as a make my slow retreat out of the room. I hate confrontations, and I hate even more the fact that I will be forced to choose a side.

Hilda: okay, so here’s what I’m going to do, I’m gonna calm them both down, listen carefully to each side of the story and try and objectively settle the disagreement. I can’t have two people I love at each other’s necks. I need peace to function normally; they will thank me later for it.

Roland: I’m not going to take sides, because that will be a betrayal to either party. I will just hold my partner’s hand and signal to her to keep it down, then I’ll walk her out of the place as patiently as I can. I find that quarrels are much easier to settle if as little venomous words as possible are exchanged. Later, when tempers are down I’ll talk to my partner and figure out how best to solve the conflict.
