We asked Jessica Hutchins, M.D., a functional medicine pro at the Cleveland Clinic, to check out three of Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop Wellness supplement blends—Balls In The Air, Why Am I So Effing Tired, and The Mother Load. She evaluated the ingredients (though not exact concentrations—that info is proprietary).

The claim: It supports a healthy immune system and efficient energy levels with broccoli extract and N-acetylcysteine (NAC).

Doctor says:"All cruciferous veggies are known to help with detoxification and balancing of hormones, decreasing your risk for hormone-dependent cancers, including breast cancer," says Hutchins. And NAC is one of the building blocks of glutathione, a compound that acts as a powerful antioxidant.

WHY AM I SO EFFING TIRED?

The claim: Ayurvedic herb ashwaganda and licorice root promote mental sharpness, stamina, and stress tolerance for women who feel drained.

Doctor says: Prolonged high stress levels can cause your adrenal glands (which produce hormones like adrenaline and cortisol) to malfunction. The phenomenon is rampant because many women have been burning the candle at both ends for years, says Hutchins. "Ashwaganda is one of my favorite supplements to help with this type of fatigue since it has minimal side effects, and licorice root increases energy and stamina and may decrease anxiety too."

THE MOTHER LOAD

The claim: Replenishes key nutrition building blocks post-baby with choline and DHA (an omega-3 fatty acid).

Doctor says: Choline is critical during the postpartum period to support a new mom's health and cognitive function, says Hutchins. "The best food sources are liver—not a favorite, at least with my patients—and eggs, which some people are developing an allergy or sensitivity to." And DHA? It offers anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to help stabilize your mood after childbirth.
