hat said, Miley says she’s in zero rush to walk down the aisle.
Miley Cyrus dropped some huge news about her future plans with Liam Hemsworth
Miley later talked about the fact that it was great that she and Liam broke up for a few years, and says that they talked during their break.
“I don’t envision marriage,” Miley told The Sun on Sunday newspaper, via The Daily Mail. “I’m 24. I hope to get to live a little bit more. I have too much living to do [before I get married].”
Miley noted she’s more about going with the flow for now. “Three years ago, if you’d asked me if I’d be here, this happy with this man, I’d have been stunned,” she said. “I’m just riding this out.”
Plus, Miley seems ridiculously happy. “In some relationships, you lose yourself by being with someone else,” she said. “Actually, it made me find myself more. I have no idea what the next three years will bring, but if it’s possible to get even happier, I’ll take it.”
Miley later talked about the fact that it was great that she and Liam broke up for a few years, and says that they talked during their break. “I didn’t know [we’d get back together]. I’m so crazy I have no idea. But I had something in my heart, it never felt like it was really over. We kept a great friendship really private,” she said. “It’s good for people to have that space to grow individually. Otherwise when you’re with someone from 16 until 24, you grow into the same person.”
Of course, getting engaged is usually a precursor to marriage but David Klow, L.M.F.T., owner of Skylight Counseling Center in Chicago, and author of the upcoming book, You Are Not Crazy: Love Letters From Your Therapist, says it’s smart to wait to get married. “Today's marriages are different than they have been in the past,” he says. “We are looking for a certain compatibility these days that encompasses more than previous generations of marriage.”
Now, he points out, people look for a partner that can be a lover, family member, and buddy. “It often takes time to be sure that there is compatibility on these multiple domains,” he says. “While chemistry might be detectable on the first date, compatibility takes time.” And, Klow adds, getting to know your partner over time can help you figure out what sort of marriage you might have together. “We each have different aspects of our personalities, which might not be readily apparent,” he says. “As the depth of who each person is in a relationship reveals itself over time, couples might have a better chance of determining if their marriage will be made to last.”
Miley and Liam seem to be on the right track and they'll no doubt get married at some point. Just not, you know, right now.
