Gymder is Tinder for the gym

Gymder claims that their services are to be used strictly for finding a "suitable workout buddy," and that they are not a dating app.

However, Gizmodo points out that Gymder rep's also compared themselves to Tinder in a press email, stoking speculation that the Gymder folks have more in mind for you than a friend to spot you at the bench press. Meanwhile, for some reason, the Daily Mail has linked them to something called "spornosexuals," which is apparently a term used to refer to men who love porn and sports.

Beyond the marketing, Gizmodo also hammered on Gymder for its invasive permissions, including access to all of the photos on your phone, and background location tracking even while you're not using the app. For their part, Gymder is fairly innocuous and innocent with their website presentation, which trumpets the app's benefits as a tool to connect the fitness-loving folks of the world.

"Gymder is a free platform that brings real people together in real life," its FAQs page notes. "Everyone can find mutually interested workout buddies nearby right when you need them. Ultimate social fitness starts when people interact with people!"
