"Prince Dovlo is very creative and believes in originality"

Sister Derbie made this statement during the press screening of Prince Dovlo’s debut movie titled “Purple”.

Talking about why she accepted her role in the movie, she divulged that her decision was influenced by Dovlo’s ‘creativity and belief in originality’.

“When I was contacted, I showed interest straight away because I have worked with him [Prince Dovlo] before. Some people complain because he may not plan the way they expect him to but I’m a spontaneous person and he is too. I feel creative people don’t over plan things,” she said

She continued “Another thing that attracted me to join the movie is that he is a very creative person, believes in originality and he is someone who is daring when it comes to arts. I am always excited to work with him.”

Speaking about her role in the movie, Sister Derbie noted that her role is ‘the opposite of how she is’.

“My role in the movie is quite the opposite of how I am.  People know that I am very blunt and I use a lot of strategies to get my points across. People think I am snobbish (which I am not) but in the movie I am, and extra cheeky. Also, I got to re-perform some of my existing songs,” she said.

“Even though it’s a movie and we can do playback, we actually re-recorded my vocals and put on the instrumentals. So everything is fresh in the movie and I am very happy to be a part,” Derbie concluded.

“Purple” movie press screening took place at the Casarere Hotel at East Legon on September 5, 2016.

“Purple” stars young actors and top Ghanaian musicians including Stonebwoy, Samini, Wanlov, Akwaboah, Pappy Kojo and Efya.
