"Being original shot me to stardom" - MzVee

"The thing is if you copy what someone else is doing, you must always remember that you are not the only person copying".

DanceHall artiste, MzVee has revealed being original with her own style has gained her more recognition in the Ghana Music Industry and beyond its frontiers.

“Staying true to myself and not copying someone else’s style, is part of the things that I have done that has brought me this far in this industry,” MzVee said in an interview on Viasat 1.“Apart from the fact that I have an amazing team, I don’t think that I would have gotten this far if I had copied someone".

Born Vera Hamenoo – Kpeda, MzVee was nominated for the first ever Viewer's Choice "Best International" category at the BET Awards with South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest, Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo, the United Kingdom’s MIC LowryGeorge the Poet and Novelist.

The "Re-Vee-Lation" singer added, "The thing is if you copy what someone else is doing, you must always remember that you are not the only person copying and so eventually you have to fight for attention but if you come in with your own style and you are yourself, you will stand out".“That is what my Natural Girl song is about, I want to be able to wake up and go out with my natural hair braided in corn-roll, I want to wake up and wear red hair if I feel like it. I mean be myself and do what I feel like doing,” she said.
