The Minister said showing such content on free-to-air stations is offensive to the country’s “moral sense we have carved for ourselves.”

According to him, showing such content on free-to-air stations is offensive to the country’s “moral sense we have carved for ourselves.”

He believes that such adult materials should be accessed in private and should not be consumed publicly.

The Minister told TV3’s Hot Issue last Saturday, that “it is in our calendar to send the broadcasting law to parliament next year for passage.

"Hopefully, when we get to the broadcasting law and we succeed in getting it passed, we will have proper regulation for what it is that people can broadcast and what it is that people cannot broadcast. But as I said, until that time comes, we are sort of handicapped a bit.”

He said that the government for now can only plead with the television stations involved not to broadcast such content.

Some ace broadcasters in Ghana earlier this month petitioned the National Media Commission to take action against television stations that telecast "pornographic materials" late evenings.

In the said petition, the two ace broadcasters, Tommy Annan-Forson and James Oberko said from May 26 to June 7, they monitored and realised that that stations like Ice TV, XYZ TV and Thunder TV were streaming pornographic content contrary to the broadcasting guidelines.

They expressed hopes that the NMC and National Communication Authority (NCA) and Parliament will deal with their concerns.

But the NMC has indicated that currently media houses in the country cannot be sanctioned due to the regulatory regime currently in place.
