Pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) says the choice of Charlotte Osei as the new chair of the Electoral Commission is questionable.

Mrs. Osei who replaces Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan was until her appointment, the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).According to Davies Opoku, Operations Director of AFAG, although the competence of Mrs. Osei cannot be doubted, President John Mahama should have held broader consultations with other political parties before appointing her.“We are a bit amazed. We think that it [the consultation] was not broader because I doubt if political parties were consulted. I doubt if civil society groups were consulted and it is quite interesting.“In the last two years, we have seen how the NCCE has performed on very key sensitive national issues... We do not doubt her competence but we felt that we didn’t do more,” he said on Starr News.
