Amakye Dede blames Police Commander

Highlife musician, Amakye Dede has said that the Police Commander at Agogo has failed to protect the indigenes of Agogo from the nefarious activities of Fulani herdsmen.

Amakye Dede who hails from Agogo in an interview on Adom FM’s Kaseabo Is Tasty on Wednesday, warned that Agogo indigenes would be forced to arm themselves and confront the issue head on if the Police Commander and the security agencies fail to protect them.

“The police commander here at Agogo protects the Fulani herdsmen more than the indigenes. We have said it over and over again… If care is not taken, a time will come that we will take the laws into our own hands and fight. We can’t be complaining all the time. Some are even ridiculing that there are no men at Agogo; we have men. But the people of Agogo are peace loving,” he said.

“I have been very instrumental in dealing with this issue when it started two years ago. I was even invited to national security and questioned. Yes, we are in Accra but it isn’t fair to see our brothers residing there go through such pain. The matter has been to court and the court ruled that the Fulanis and their cattle should be driven out but they are still around and shooting people. We have complained but nothing good has come out of it,” he added.

Amakye Dede believes the best way to tackle the issue is for the police to implement a 2012 High Court ruling which demanded the eviction of the Fulanis from some 12 communities in Agogo.

“Who gave them the permit to bring their cattle there? No one is willing to come out with the information. The police commander is not helping us. And that is the reason I said if it continues, we will fight our battle but we don’t want to go against the law so all we are asking is the court ruling should be enforced,” he stated.
