The Minority Spokesperson on Energy, K.T Hammond says the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) decision to demolish buildings on waterways is in order.

While some argue that the move is a knee jerk reaction which will not yield any result, others have openly declared their unflinching support for it, stating that it is a step to solving the perennial flooding in the country.

Honourable Hammond has said that building on waterways is a “serious act of indiscipline” and “no one has the right to block a waterway for their own personal benefit.” According to him, “We need to clear the constructions on waterways so that we don’t have a repeat of what happened”.

Meanwhile, Economist, Sydney Casely-Hayford has said that Ghanaians who have built on waterways should not allow city authorities to demolish their homes. According to him, people should resist any attempt to demolish their homes because authorities are to blame for the havoc that claimed many lives.
