'Dumsor' will be over in March - ECG

Power consumers in Accra continue to experience intermittent power outages daily

The Electricity Company of Ghana has said that all localized power outages in the country will be over by the end of March this year.

Power consumers in Accra continue to experience intermittent power outages daily in spite of assurances by government that the situation has improved.

Managing Director of ECG, Robert Dwamena has told Accra-based Joy FM, that the outages are as a result of faults with some distribution lines.

“We are mindful of ensuring that we have system reliability in all areas of operation. Because of the load shedding we were unable to measure the demand of customers ...but now dumsor (load shedding) is not coming back. We have enough transformers in our system; over 2000 transformers to make sure that we able to overcome these challenges," he said.

“We believe that within the first quarter we should be able to strengthen our network to make the system withstand the shortfalls,” he stated.

Speaking on calls for utility tariffs to be reduced, Mr. Gyamena said that is not impossible, as it would affect the power sector.

"The power sector needs to be robust. After these challenges that we experienced, we shouldn't go back. The only thing we want to ensure that we do not go back is money," he added.
