Ministry of Education blows GH¢19,114.00 on newspapers

The report noted that though supplies were made to different locations within the ministry, so “signed distribution list was provided for our audit to confirm the recipients.”

The ministry of education spent GH¢19,114.00 to purchase private newspapers for seven months; September 2012 – March 2013 for management staff, according to the 2014 auditor general’s report.

The audit report noted that though supplies were made to different locations within the ministry, no “signed distribution list was provided for our audit to confirm the recipients.”

The auditor general therefore blamed the anomaly on inadequate administrative measures put in place to regulate expenditure on newspapers.

Purchasing such large quantities of private newspapers could be a drain on limited resources, the report said.

The report urged management to liaise with the Public Relations Unit of the ministry to ensure efficient and effective information management and also to drastically reduce the number of private newspapers bought for the office.
