Occupy Ghana vows to put pressure on AG to release 'privileged' report

The pressure group received all but one document regarding the controversial Metro Mass branding contract between the government and Smarttys Management and Productions.

The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General (A-G) refused to hand over to the group a particular report she delivered to the Chief of Staff after her initial investigations to uncover the bus branding saga on the ground that it is "confidential and privileged".

In an interview on Accra-based Citi FM, Sydney Casley Hayford, a member of Occupy Ghana said he and his group will not leave anything to speculation.

"We want to be sure that when we make recommendations for other persons to be prosecuted, we are not rolling back the wheels of justice because we are not privy to the information. All of this is being done to ensure that the right recommendations were made and the right thing is done," he said.

"...supposing the AG made the recommendation in the report in the Chief of Staff’s office that the Minister of Transport should be prosecuted because in her investigation she had found that she slacked in actually doing her job, then we would want to find out why she has not been prosecuted...", Casely Hayford added.

It will be recalled that on April 13 the Human Rights Court gave its ruling in a controversial case brought by some members of OccupyGhana demanding full disclosure of government’s contract with Smarttys Production over the branded Metro Mass buses to them.

Justice Anthony Yeboah ordered the A-G, who was one of the respondents, to give all the documents on the bus branding except documents regarding trade secrets, and national defence to the group.
