Only income tax payers should be allowed to vote- Casely-Hayford

According to the Financial Analyst paying income tax must be the pre-requisite for the right to contribute to the country's democracy.

Financial Analyst, Sydney Casely-Hayford has asserted that none tax payers be disallowed from voting and essentially deciding who rules the country.

Speaking on Accra- based Citi Fm's Big Issues, Sydney Casely-Hayford said, There must be evidence that you are actually a tax paying payer. And if for some reason, you do not pay taxes, there must be a formal explanation from the Ghana Revenue Autority explaining why you don't."

When challenged by the Executive Director of Policy Think-Tank Imani Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe, who was also a guest on the show, that every citizen some form of indirect tax or the other, Sydney Casely- Hayford insisted that every voter must be an income tax payer, whether he or she operates in the formal or informal sector.

When asked about the unemployed, the ranking member of Pressure Group, Occupy Ghana said, the unemployed must show prove of their zero income status and even be granted assistance by the state.

He maintained that this will be a sure way of ensuring that foreigners from neighbouring countries will not have an opportunity to register as voters in the country.
