The World Bank has cleared Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the country’s largest private waste management company, from its sanctions list, making the company and its affiliates now eligible to bid for projects funded or administered by the Bank.

World Bank clears Zoomlion of fraud
A release from the World Bank Group Sanctions, signed by its Integrity Compliance Officer, Mr Jonathan Shapiro, said Zoomlion Ghana Limited had satisfied the conditions for it to be released from the bank’s sanctions list.
The affiliates include Zoom Alliance Ltd, Accra Compost Plant Ltd, Zoomlion GE SL, Zoomlion Angola Limited, Zoomlion Togo SARL and Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
The statement, dated October 1, 2015, and communicated to the Executive Chairman of Zoomlion Ghana Limited in Accra, said: “Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the now released affiliates are currently (as of September 23, 2015) eligible to bid on and be considered for World Bank Group funded and/or administered projects.”
It said with effect from September 23, 2015, the names of Zoomlion and its affiliates had been removed from the World Bank Group debarment list.

“Should there be any questions regarding Zoomlion’s now released status by anyone either within or outside the Bank, please advise that they should contact me without delay and l will confirm the company’s now eligible status, “the statement said.
World Bank ban
In September, 2013, the World Bank Group placed a ban on Zoomlion Ghana Limited for two years over alleged bribery in Liberia.
The bribery allegation involved the World Bank-financed emergency Monrovia urban sanitation project.
According to a report published on the World Bank's website, Zoomlion paid bribes to facilitate contract execution and processing of invoices.

Accordingly, Zoomlion would not qualify for any contract financed by the World Bank Group for a period of two years.
The two-year ban took effect on September 24, 2013.
The World Bank said Zoomlion needed to demonstrate full and satisfactory compliance with the World Bank Integrity standards in order for the ban to be lifted.
Robust ethics
Commenting on the decision of the World Bank to clear Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the Founder and Executive Chairman of the company, Dr Joseph S. Agyepong, said the corporate compliance programme had brought a robust corporate code of ethics and integrity policies and procedures which now remained a hallmark of all operations of the company across Africa and further afield.

He further stated that “a fast thriving company as ours is bound to face challenges of all sorts, but it is our acknowledgement and responses to such challenges that determine whether or not we will survive.”
