Farmers have blamed this on current weather conditions and the time of the year. According to them, tubers are usually out of season at this time of the year, leading to relative scarcity on the market hence the escalation in prices.

Some consumers Pulse Business has been speaking to are concerned that their Ghanaian delicacy, Fufu, which is mainly prepared out of root tubers like yam, cassava and cocoyam is becoming more expensive to prepare.

According Esoko’s food price index, the price of cassava increased by 10 percent to close the week at 7 cedis 10 pesewas. This is the price of  three to four tubers.
