ACEP predicts the comeback of dumsor in Nana Addo’s early days

In a report titled ‘Beyond 2016 Elections, Energy Sector Priorities’, ACEP has warned the return in April 2017 of the much dread electricity crisis, popularly known as dumsor.

In a report titled ‘Beyond 2016 Elections, Energy Sector Priorities’, ACEP warned the return in April 2017 of the much dreaded electricity crisis, popularly known as dumsor.

According to ACEP, dumsor’s comeback will be as a result of the inadequacy of fuel to power Ghana’s generation plants.

"Fuel supply has become more challenging as thermal generation will continue to dominate the sector”, the report said.

The power sector is regularly saddled with fuel shortages, especially gas, as the country struggles in order to pay its debts.

However, John Jinapor, the deputy minister of power has downplayed the report retorting that the country has made significant preparations for future deficit.

The power crisis crippled many business and led to significant layoffs in the country. The Mahama-led administration that oversaw the three and half year crisis was voted out of office on December 7, 2016 with the opposition New Patriotic Party promising to solve the crisis when it assumes office in January 2017.
