However, in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM, ECG’s head of communication William Boateng said the delay in restoring power to all consumers is due to some challenges they encountered earlier.

"Historically when the rains threaten we go through these challenges but I am expecting that things will normalise soon. We are on the ground."

"The projection is that in the next two hours we will bring power," he assured.

At about 9:40 pm on Wednesday (May 3, 2017) Ghana experienced a nationwide blackout.

Many Ghanaians took to social media to comment on the development.

The Nana Addo-led government has also faced some attacks especially after they criticised the then Mahama administration for dumsor.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive of GridCo, William Amuna said that the power outage was an emergency.

“We don't know what exactly caused the power outage, but we are investigating. There has not been a situation that demands that we shed load. This power outage was an emergency.”

“There was a fault with national supply which cause all the regions to lose power at about 9:40 pm.” he added.
