Utility tariffs to go up in October- PURC

Utility companies are proposing over 100 percent increment in tariffs. The demand of the utility companies are in response of what the companies are describing as  high cost of production, according to some utility service providers.

 

The Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission is hinting of an impending review of utility tariffs in the last quarter of 2015.

The commission is currently holding public fora on proposed tariffs from service providers.

Utility companies are proposing over 100 percent increment in tariffs. The demand of the utility companies are in response of what the companies are describing as  high cost of production, according to some utility service providers.

The Ghana Water Company Limited is pushing for an upward adjustment in the price of 1 cubic meter of water, from 1 cedi 78 pesewas to 4 cedis, representing over 200 percent increase.The Director of Public Affairs for the PURC, Nana Yaa Jantuah in an interview on Morning Starr said although the reviews have not been approved yet, consumers should expect changes for the last quarter of the year.“We have a month to do everything, we have up to the first week in October but this is the process we go through every time when we have a major tariff increase,” Miss Jantuah told host Kafui Dey Tuesday.
