ECG retrieves GHC8.7m from clamp-down on illegal connections
The Director of Customer Service of the ECG, Mr Kobina Ato-Forson, made this known when officials of the company embarked on a similar exercise to clamp down on illegal connection in the Tema North Region of the company.
GHC30 million was retrieved from individuals and organisations between August and December 2015 for the same purpose.
In the exercise, Community Eight Police Barracks recorded the highest number of illegal connections in the Tema North Region of the Company.
The illegal connections included metre bypasses, houses without meters, and houses that were illegally supplying electricity to other houses, using underground cables.
Culprits have been issued with court summons to appear before the Energy Court for prosecution.
