Most of them say they have excess rice ready for the market. However, they are unable to find markets for their produce.
They said the influx of imported rice at a relatively lower price was partially a cause of their woes.
The farmers are therefore appealing to the government and other stakeholders to help in marketing their produce for them to avoid incurring debts.
In the Volta Region for instance over 50,000 bags of paddy rice are locked up in various homes in the Ho municipality because farmers are unable to get buyers for the produce.
The chairman of the Rice Farmers Association at Akrofu Xeviwofe, Mr Richard Ahimgble, said most farmers in the region had stopped growing okro, cassava and maize cultivation to rice cultivation.
Meanwhile a rice farmer in Bolgatanga in the Upper East region, William Anaba said he was unhappy with the low patronage of their produce.
“We, the farmers who cultivate rice during the rainy season are distressed and shocked over our inability to get good market for our produce. Something must be done about it,” he said.
